Dr Panter comes to ECH following 10 years in senior leadership roles in SA Health with most recent positions including CEO of the Central Adelaide Local Health Network and project director for the new Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Prior to that he held health and local government leadership roles with a strong focus on aged care service provision in the UK, where he was also a member of the then Prime Minister Tony Blair’s National Older Person’s Task Force.

ECH is ideally positioned to respond to the challenges and ever-changing needs of older people and the opportunity to lead the organisation was a challenge too good to miss, Dr Panter said.

“The delivery of community-based services that enable people to age where they choose to live is a clear objective of ECH that I wholly endorse,” he said.

ECH chairman Dr Tom Stubbs said ECH was thrilled to find and appoint a leader of Dr Panter’s calibre to replace Mr Hankins.

He said Dr Panter had an outstanding record of performance in health and ageing as demonstrated by recently managing an organisation of more than 10,000 staff with a $1.5 billion budget, and his capacity to manage major infrastructure projects and private-public sector relationships as leader of the RAH project.

Dr Stubbs also paid tribute to Mr Hankins for leading ECH’s transformation into a leading, innovative provider of retirement homes and community-based services.

Last year, Mr Hankins led the strategic divestment of ECH’s residential aged care facilities in South Australia and the Northern Territory in order to dedicate its focus on community, home, centre-based and wellness services and independent-living retirement villages.
