The key issues emerging in the transition to the new Commonwealth Home Support Program and what the home care reforms mean for not-for-profit aged care providers are some of the key topics to be debated at an upcoming industry event.

State peak body Aged and Community Services NSW & ACT will host the community care forum, Securing our place in the future, in Sydney on 10 November.

Jane Mussared, chief executive of COTA SA and NACA chair of the Home Care Packages advisory group will address the event on what the reforms mean for the consumer-provider relationship and how providers can best identify and meet consumer expectations.

Steve Teulan, UnitingCare Ageing director, will discuss not-for-profits and organisational sustainability in an environment of increased consumer control.

Other speakers include:

  • David Kay, director of health, ageing and human services at KPMG on the impact of reform on NFP business models
  • Alison Choy-Flannigan, partner at Holman Webb Lawyers on managing brokerage arrangements, and
  • Michael Fine, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Sociology at Macquarie University on the future of community care.
