Vasey RSL Care officially opened ten new 2-bedroom units at Cheltenham Village last week, built by TM Building Group.

“This is a very exciting day for us,” said CEO Janna Voloshin. “We have been working towards it for five years and we are delighted that the new homes are now ready for their occupants.”

Chairman of the board David Paroissien thanked the Cheltenham Village residents for their patience during the construction.

“Anyone who has built anything knows it is a complex task. Combined with our Melbourne weather, timelines do not always work as they should,” he said. “We greatly appreciate the patience of our residents, the commitment of our staff, and the cooperation of the construction team. We are very pleased to have reached this point and be ready to welcome our new residents.”

Cheltenham Village provides independent living for war widows and ex-service personnel and currently houses around 70 people.

Resthaven Craigmore has begun a $1.2 million refurbishment. As part of this, residents will have 40 inch interactive televisions installed in their rooms to meet demand for ‘smart’ media technology.

Manager Kerri-Anne Barnes said that when the project was completed, residents would be able to use the televisions to access lifestyle programs, menus, movie lists, Skype, and browse the internet. Smart televisions will also be installed in all main lounge areas, along with electronic noticeboards in the corridors.

“The project is just kicking off, with cabling almost complete, and negotiations underway with the company that is installing the hardware. Residents can choose to purchase pay-tv, additional wi-fi and other optional extras,” said Ms Barnes.

The facility would also receive other upgrades, including a new lounge area with bay window, overlooking a rose garden; an upgraded barbeque area with new seating and water feature; and an artificial turf area for activities such as croquet, bowls and bocce, which leads into an interactive garden trail. The upstairs balcony area will also have a vergola roof that can be opened or closed, and bi-fold windows.

Dining and lounge areas have also been made open plan and a partial wall with built-in fire place installed.

Blue Care purchases Fraser Shores Retirement Villages

Not-for-profit service provider Blue Care has purchased Fraser Shores Retirement Villages in Hervey Bay from property developers David and Anita Torrisi, where it will begin operations from July this year.

The two Fraser Shores villages, located in the one street, are home to more than 600 people in 427 retirement living units.

The Torrisis said Blue Care would be able to deliver on their vision for providing more services on site to further support residents and the community.

Blue Care plans to consolidate its Hervey Bay services at the site in the future, and on undeveloped land build a new residential aged care facility and a health and wellness centre.

Executive director Robyn Batten said the purchase was significant and strategically important for Blue Care as it moves to strengthen its presence throughout regional Queensland.

“We have more than 40 years’ history of delivering services in Hervey Bay,” she said.

“Fraser Shores will help us better service residents and the community through our integrated service model, offering a range of services from the one site.”

To minimise the impact on residents and staff, and ensure a smooth transition, David Torrisi will partner and work with Blue Care for several months after they take over the site. Ms Batten said Blue Care would also offer Fraser Shores’ staff equivalent positions with Blue Care.

Blue Care’s existing services in Hervey Bay include residential aged care and retirement living, along with a broad range of community and respite care services.
