Arcare expands in Queensland

Victorian-based aged care provider Arcare opened its new five-star facility at Hope Island on the Gold Coast recently.

The $20 million Arcare Hope Island is the company’s fourth location in the city and brings its presence in south east Queensland to nine facilities.

The provider says the two-level art deco-style building on Halcyon Way has 120 beds and will employ more than 100 people including clinical, administration, personal care and general maintenance staff.

It includes a café with alfresco area, movie theatre, hair salon, gift shop, physiotherapy room, grand piano room, private dining room for families and an internal courtyard.

Arcare CEO Colin Singh said the facility would attract those looking for the best in aged care and there had been strong interest in the new residence.

Gold Coast acting mayor, Councillor Donna Gates said that with one of the largest seniors’ communities in Australia, the Gold Coast was one of the best places for seniors to live and enjoy high quality services.

Arcare has 12 aged care homes in Victoria and says it has a further four in the pipeline.

IRT has announced that building work on the expansion of IRT St Georges Basin has begun.

Milton-based builders Tereno Pty Ltd have been awarded the tender and recently helped IRT chairman Alan Newing and chief executive Nieves Murray officially turn the first sod on Stage 1 of construction.

It’s not the first time IRT has used the builder. In July, Tereno claimed two awards for Excellence in Regional Building from the Masters Building Association for the $1.8 million expansion of IRT catering’s facility at Unanderra, which was completed last December.

In total, 18 lifestyle units will be added to the St Georges Basin community with the first stage of expansion comprising five units.

Currently IRT St Georges Basin comprises a care centre with 89 suites as well as 14 lifestyle units.

Ms Murray said it was the third major expansion of the community since it first opened in 1993. The entire expansion project comprising all 18 units is expected to cost around $5 million.

New name for Warrigal

Choice is at the centre of Warrigal’s new philosophy and purpose, as well as its new look, according to the provider. It recently launched its new visual identity and name to reflect “an evolution and expansion” of its new communities and services and “renewed focus on individuals”.

The provider will now be known as Warrigal.

“We believe that just because you need a little help around the house, or because you choose to live in one of our community villages, that doesn’t change who you are. Nor should it,” said Warrigal CEO Mark Sewell. “Our new look and feel, and our new philosophy, is our way of inviting older people to come and be a part of Warrigal, whilst still being themselves.”

“With the assistance of rebrand specialists Principals, an amazing local creative team, and internal support from all parts of the business, we’ve been able to pull together a visual representation that is clear and effective,” said Warrigal community relations manager Carrie Edwards.

“It’s also a good way for us to tell the story of our customers better, something that came out in our brand research as an area for improvement.”
