Dr Sophie Mepham has been appointed innovation, policy and research manager at Benetas to drive the not-for-profit aged care provider’s advocacy agenda and manage its portfolio of research projects

Dr Mepham previously ran a large clinical research unit at the Peter MacCullum Cancer Centre and has worked with the Department of Industry, the National Health and Medical Research Council and Swinburne University on national clinical research projects.

Benetas’ research projects include the $1.2 million Frailty Screening Project, participation in the inaugural International Longevity Centre Australasia and partnering with Family Mediation and Counselling Victoria to deliver the Seniors Mediation Program.

Dr Mepham said her vision for the role would focus on working closely with key internal and external stakeholders to further the innovative, evidence-based programs offered by Benetas.

“As well as collaborating with staff from across the business, we’ll be strengthening the organisation’s external relationships to continue to drive excellent research and advocacy for older people, and pursuing and creating new partnerships,” said Dr Mepham.

Board members re-elected to ACSWA

Aged and Community Services WA (ACSWA) has announced the re-election of four directors to its board: Justine Colyer, CEO, Rise Network; Glenn Muskett, CEO, Braemar Presbyterian Care; Sonya Smart, CEO, Catholic Homes Inc; and Tonia Zeeman, general manager, Brightwater Care Group.

The board appointed Tonia Zeeman as chair, John Murray as deputy chair and David Fenwick was reappointed as treasurer.

ACSWA CEO Trevor Lovelle said: “I’d like to congratulate our re-elected board members and I look forward to working with such a dedicated and hardworking team as we move forward; there are exciting times ahead for the aged and community care sector.”

Changes at Per Capita’s CAPPA

Project manager Katelijne Lenaerts has taken over as head of think tank Per Capita’s Centre for Applied Policy in Positive Ageing.

Ms Lenaerts comes to CAPPA from Social Ventures Australia.

Founding executive director Emily Millane has left Per Capita to start her PhD, looking at retirement incomes, and to take up a role at the Commonwealth Treasury.

As Australian Ageing Agenda reported earlier in the year, Per Capita established CAPPA as a ‘do tank’, to turn proposals on ageing and aged care into functioning programs.
